The role in Berlin requires advisory and/or other government affairs experience as well as profound expertise of the interplay between federal, state, local, and EU legislative processes. It is an opportunity to further develop expertise at the interface between business, politics and the system of German policymaking.
Role and responsibilities:
- Tracking and analysis of key policy developments and regulatory trends in Germany, assessing their impact on clients’ business models, and providing strategic, actionable advice and pathways to mitigate risks.
- Supporting the development of clients’ government/public affairs and advocacy strategies and campaigns by identifying emerging political risks and opportunities, developing engagement roadmaps, and helping them build their political brands.
- Presenting information clearly and compellingly in writing and through the visualisation of relevant data, including by drafting slide decks.
- Supporting the development and implementation of stakeholder engagement by Global Counsel and its clients.
- Leading projects and/or retainer workstreams, including coordinating deliverables and guiding junior colleagues/steering senior colleagues to ensure high-quality outcomes, building positive client relationships and delivering actions and projects to meet clients' needs and deadlines.

- Build and maintain relationships with a wider network of policy and industry stakeholders at all levels.
Skills and profile:
- Demonstrated expertise and knowledge of the policymaking process in Germany and the interplay of the federal, state, and local level and the EU.
- A university degree in political science, social sciences, public administration, economics or law and 4+ years of hands-on experience working in the German parliament, federal government, political organisations, advisory, or industry (associations).
- The ability to make inferences and draw conclusions about how politics and regulations affect businesses and understand how that knowledge may be applied to Global Counsel’s business development.
- Clear, objective and engaging written communication, including the ability to write on sensitive and technical subjects, often synthesising complex material.
- A motivated self-starter who works well independently and as part of a team.
- Highly organised, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple workstreams for multiple clients to meet deadlines.
