Global Counsel is looking for a Research Analyst to join its Financial Services practice. This role is an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in public policy and strategic advisory, as well as a range of high-profile policy and political issues.
Candidates must have the permanent right to work in the UK.
The ideal candidate
- Has a keen interest in politics and government, with a desire to develop expertise in financial services. We are looking for someone who is passionate about politics and policy, who can delve into detail but also communicate the bigger picture.
- Is an effective written communicator. You will be comfortable distilling complex political and policy developments into incisive analysis for generalist and expert audiences.
- Has proven project-management skills. Someone who can handle concurrent tasks effectively and lead projects independently on a tight schedule.
- Has deep intellectual curiosity and energy. You will be adept at handling complexity and ambiguity, and able to grasp new issues, scan the horizon for key developments, and form coherent and well-argued advice.
Role and responsibilities
- Monitor and report relevant political, policy and regulatory developments relevant to the financial services sector.
- Act as a day-to-day contact for clients, building positive relationships and delivering actions and projects to meet needs and deadlines.
- Support clients in assessing the risks and opportunities of evolving financial services policy and regulation and analysing public and political expectations.
Skills and profile
- Strong written and oral communication skills, including on sensitive and technical subjects, in English.
- Demonstrable organisational, research and analytical skills.
- Knowledge of the policy-making architecture in the UK (Parliament and government). Other jurisdictions, especially the EU, are a plus.
- A motivated self-starter who works well independently and as part of a team.
