Associate, Tech, Media & Telecoms
Global Counsel is seeking an Associate to join its UK Tech, Media and Telecommunications (TMT) practice. The team helps some of the world's largest and most innovative technology companies to overcome policy challenges and maximise opportunity. These include online safety, AI, data, public sector digitisation, new mobility and digital infrastructure.
The successful candidate will have a background in public affairs, a political institution and/or regulator, and as such have existing knowledge about how the UK political system operates. Expertise in tech policy and/or prior experience of policymaking in other jurisdictions would both be an asset. The ideal candidate will be an effective written communicator, and able to balance multiple work strands at once.
The role will be based in GC’s London office.
Role and responsibilities
- Play a key role in the TMT team supporting clients on their UK policy needs.
- Support the monitoring and analysis of key policy and regulatory trends in the technology space.
- Work with colleagues to develop and deliver clients’ strategies as they seek to shape or comply with new legislation.
- Provide day-to-day contact for clients, building positive client relationships and delivering actions and projects to meet clients’ needs and deadlines.
- Analyse policy and political developments, identifying clearly for clients in written and oral communications what the implications are for their business and their public policy strategies.
Skills and profile
- Degree in a relevant field.
- Strong knowledge of the policymaking architecture in the UK (Westminster & Whitehall).
- Commercial acumen and the ability to make inferences and draw conclusions about how politics and regulations affect businesses.
- Clear, objective and engaging written communication, including on sensitive and technical subjects, and a proven ability to synthesize complex material.
- Rigorous and entrepreneurial research skills.
- Experience in advocacy or political communications is an advantage, but not essential.
- Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills in English. Any other language skills are an advantage, but non-essential.
- A motivated self-starter who works well independently and as part of a team.
- Self-awareness and a strong commitment to professional and personal development.
